In 1959, Jakov P. Dulcich and his wife Antoinette emigrated from Croatia to Cocimbo Chile. In 1960 they came to Delano, California, where Jakov worked for his uncle, Prosper Dulcich, who then packed in the White River label. For many years Jakov and his wife worked diligently and saved their money and in 1975 purchased their first piece of farmland, while still employed for Prosper Dulcich. In 1985 more farmland was purchased and a decision was made by Jakov to stop working for Prosper Dulcich and Sons and devote full time to his own vineyards. For many years the fruit was marketed by various companies, however, the old saying came up, that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. For that reason the Dulcich family formed Sunlight International Sales Inc. Sunlight International now ships grapes worldwide, including such countries as Taiwan, Thailand, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada as well as the U.S. Jakov P. Dulcich & Sons currently grows 15 varieties on over 2,500 acres of land.
